Facing selling pressure in the last trading hour, domestic equity markets closed with declines.
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) ended 72 points down at 25,230, on Monday, and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed 19 points lower at 7,731.
After opening at 25,448, the benchmark index Sensex touched 25,519 mark on the positive side while it touched 25,208 mark on the negative side in the intraday trade.
In the broader markets, BSE Smallcap index declined 0.4 per cent while Midcap index dropped 0.3 per cent.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, FMCG index was the top gainer up 2.1 per cent while Capital Goods index was the top loser, down 0.9 per cent.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: ITC (up 5.3 per cent), Adani Ports (up 1.9 per cent), HUL (up 1 per cent), Bharti Airtel (up 1 per cent), and Coal India (up 0.4 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Tata Steel (down 2.9 per cent), Lupin (down 2.6 per cent), ONGC (down 2.2 per cent), Cipla (down 1.9 per cent) and HDFC (down 1.9 per cent).
The Rupee was trading one paisa higher at 67.43 against the US Dollar.
