Amid mixed global cues, domestic equity markets trimmed gains in the last hour of trade on Tuesday and closed with marginal jumps.
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 44 points higher at 26,394 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended 15 points up at 8,142.
In the broader markets, BSE Smallcap and Smallcap indices jumped around 0.6 per cent each.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Auto index jumped the most, up over 2.2 per cent, while IT index became the top loser, down 0.5 per cent.
On Monday, the Sensex had closed 34 points higher at 26,350 and the Nifty had ended 13 points up at 8,127.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Maruti Suzuki (up 4 per cent), Bharti Airtel (up 2.1 per cent), Gail (up 2.1 per cent), Hero Motocorp (up 2.1 per cent) and M&M (up 1.9 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Axis Bank (down 1.6 per cent), Sun Pharma (down 1.1 per cent), NTPC (down 1 per cent), ITC (down 1 per cent) and TCS (down 0.8 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading 10 paise higher at 68.66 against the US Dollar.
