Amid weak Asian and European markets, domestic equity markets closed first trading session of the week with declines.
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 374 points down at 28,294, on Monday, and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed 109 points lower 8,723.
On Friday, the Sensex had closed 105 points down at 28,668 and the Nifty had closed 36 points lower at 8,832.
In the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices slumped around 0.6 per cent each.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Realty index closed with the biggest decline, up over 2 per cent, while Energy index closed with the biggest gain, up by 0.4 per cent.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Coal India (up 1.2 per cent), Reliance Industries (up 0.6 per cent), Lupin (up 0.4 per cent), Dr Reddy&’s Labs (up 0.3 per cent) and TCS (up 0.2 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: ONGC (down 3.8 per cent), Tata Motors (down 3.2 per cent), ICICI Bank (down 3.2 per cent), NTPC (down 3 per cent) and Gail (down 2.5 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading three paise down at 66.68 against the US Dollar.
