India’s passenger EV market will hot up in next 3-4 years
Currently Tata Motors held over two-thirds of the country's EV market, but Mahindra & Mahindra and BYD are emerging players in the Indian market.
On the opening day of the 87th Geneva International Motor Show, homegrown auto maker Tata Motors unveiled its startup innovation– the ‘TAMO Racemo’ which is India’s first digitally native and connected two-seater sports coupe.
The race car which claims to reach 0 to 100 km in less than 6 seconds, is a low-slung concept built on a patented MOFlex Multi-Material Sandwich (MMS) structure, a modular platform on which the automaker can design cars across all segments.
About the technical specifications, the Racemo is powered by a 1.2 litre new generation turbo-charged, Intercooled engine that generates a maximum power of 190PS @ 6500rpm and 210NM @ 2500rpm.

The car’s overall length is 3835 mm while the maximum width is 1810 mm. The height is 1208 mm and the wheel base is 2430 mm. The Racemo is equipped with an AMT gear box that comes with paddle shifters.
Launching the concept in two variants — the Racemo and the Racemo Plus, Tata Motors CEO and managing director Guenter Butschek said: “Racemo is the first innovation from TAMO, and will drive the future of India’s connected generation.”
“From styling and design to driver experience and technology, it is an extension of customers’ personality, as part of their digital ecosystem and will break the ice with a radical new presence and pique the interest in the parent brand,” he added.
Tata Motors also displayed its upcoming Tiago-based compact sedan Tigor, and a compact SUV Nexon at the show, which were also showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016.
The TAMO Racemo car will also be available on an interactive gaming platform in Microsoft’s Forza Horizon 3.
