Nifty tumbles 154 pts; Sensex closes below 26,000

Extending last week’s declines amid mixed Asian markets and demonetisation concerns, Indian bourses closed in the red zone on Monday. 
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 385 points down at 25,765 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended 154 points lower at 7,929.
Broader markets underperformed the frontlines, BSE Smallcap and Midcaps indices plummeted 2.8 per cent and 3.2 per cent respectively.
All the BSE sectoral indices closed in the negative zone with Realty index leading the declines, down 4.7 per cent. 
On Friday, the Sensex had closed 77 points down at 26,150 and the Nifty had ended six points lower at 8,074.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Wipro (up 1.1 per cent), TCS (up 0.4 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 0.4 per cent), Reliance Industries (up 0.3 per cent) and ONGC (up 0.2 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: SBI (down 6.5 per cent), Tata Steel (down 3.5 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (down 3.5 per cent), Power Grid (down 3.2 per cent) and M&M (down 3.2 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading below the 68 mark, down one paisa, at 68.14 against the US Dollar.
