Sensex, Nifty end lower for fourth straight session
Sensex closed with a loss of 455 points, or 0.62%, at 72,488.99 while the Nifty 50 ended the day at 21,995.85, down 152 points, or 0.69%.
Higher trade and European and Asian markets supported domestic benchmark indices to close Monday’s trading session with small to medium jumps. The BSE Sensex ended 291 points or 0.99 per cent up at 29,656 while the NSE Nifty closed 99 points or 1.08 per cent higher at 9,218.
In the broader markets, BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap indices gained 1 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively.
Among BSE sectoral indices, Realty index registered the biggest gain with a jump of 3 per cent. Capital Goods (up 1.7 per cent), Bankex (up 1.3 per cent) and Auto (up 1.2 per cent) were other notable gainers. Healthcare index dropped 0.4 per cent.

On Friday, the BSE Sensex had closed 57 points or 0.19 per cent up at 29,365 while the NSE Nifty had closed 17 points or 0.19 per cent higher at 9,119.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Gail (up 3.2 per cent), HDFC Bank (up 2.6 per cent), Axis Bank (up 2.6 per cent), L&T (up 2.5 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki (up 1.8 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Lupin (down 3.3 per cent), Cipla (down 1.3 per cent), NTPC (down 0.5 per cent), Power Grid (down 0.3 per cent) and Wipro (down 0.3 per cent).
The Rupee was trading 17 paise higher at 64.44 against the US Dollar.
