Amid lower opening of European markets, domestic bourses erased initial gains and closed Tuesday&’s trading session with marginal declines.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 71 points down at 28,294 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed 17 points lower 8,706.

On Monday, the Sensex had closed 374 points down at 28,294 and the Nifty had closed 109 points lower at 8,723.

However, broader markets managed to close in the positive territory. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose around 0.1 per cent each.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Capital Goods index closed with the biggest decline, down over 1 per cent, while, IT index closed with the biggest gain, up by 0.7 per cent. 

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Lupin (up 1.3 per cent), TCS (up 1.2 per cent), Wipro (up 1.2 per cent), Asian Paints (up 0.9 per cent) and Cipla (up 0.6 per cent).

Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Adani Ports (down 2.2 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 2 per cent), L&T (down 2 per cent), ONGC (down 1.2 per cent) and Axis Bank (down 1.2 per cent).

However, the Rupee was trading 13 paise higher at 66.47 against the US Dollar.
