Catering to the growing demand for apple in the country, the Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday said that the state has supplied over 29 lakh apple boxes so far to other states.

“29,36,693 apple boxes had been supplied to different markets of the country through 6524 trucks up to August 16, 2016,” a government spokesperson said.

“The state government has so far opened 191 collection centres in the state for procurement of apples under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS),” he added.

Himachal Pradesh, also known as Apple state, fulfills the demand of apple in India and abroad.

According to some reports, the state produces around 2.5 crore boxes of apple every year.

One apple box contains around 20 kg apples.
