Data is the new oil for economy: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Highlighting that information and technology has the “power to empower” masses, Union Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday said data was the “new oil” for the economy.

Speaking at the launch of ‘Opengov data Hackathon’, the minister released guidelines for development of e-Governance applications at the event.

“Technology should be affordable & inclusive, Digital India has the same objective. This is the age of Information & Technology, IT is the power to empower,” he said.
