The government on Tuesday said that Aadhaar card will be mandatory for filing Income Tax Return (IR) as well as applying for Permanent Account Number (PAN) from the next financial year. The move will come into effect from July 1, 2017.
According to a proposal by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the Adhaar Card number would have to be linked to individual’s Pan numbers.
In another announcement, the labour ministry has made Aadhaar card mandatory for Employees Provident Fund (EFP) accounts from March 31.
