₹1.75 trillion wiped off top firms’ valuation as markets end week in sharp decline

The combined market valuation of seven of the top-10 most valued firms tumbled by ₹1.75 trillion last week, with Reliance Industries taking the biggest hit as its valuation eroded by ₹89,720.3 crore to ₹18,24,515.62 crore.

In a rank-wise analysis, Reliance Industries remained the most valued firm, followed by HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Infosys, Larsen & Toubro and Hindustan Unilever.

HDFC Bank’s valuation declined by ₹37,248.59 crore to ₹11,64,018.69 crore, while the market capitalisation of ICICI Bank dropped by ₹8,121.76 crore to ₹8,83,551.30 crore.

State Bank of India lost ₹35,399.42 crore, taking its valuation to ₹9,41,569.15 crore. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel’s market capitalisation fell by ₹2,480.42 crore to ₹10,50,413.33 crore.

Hindustan Unilever’s valuation declined by ₹2,091.13 crore to ₹4,87,540.19 crore. In contrast, Larsen & Toubro saw its market valuation rise by ₹18,051.68 crore to ₹4,90,536.19 crore.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) slipped by ₹271.35 crore to ₹8,64,668.65 crore, while Infosys added ₹6,245.3 crore, taking its valuation to ₹5,15,034.67 crore. Bajaj Finance also gained ₹8,680.36 crore, pushing its market capitalisation to ₹5,25,395.48 crore.

Stock markets ended the week on a weak note, with benchmark indices declining sharply amid broad-based selling across sectors.

On Friday, the Sensex fell by 1,690.23 points, or 2.25 per cent, to close at 73,583.22, while the Nifty dropped 486.85 points, or 2.09 per cent, to settle at 22,819.60. The Nifty Midcap index fell 2.2 per cent, and the Smallcap index declined 1.7 per cent.

The cumulative market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms dropped to ₹422 lakh crore from ₹431 lakh crore in the previous session, with investors collectively losing nearly ₹9 lakh crore.
