New Alipore College hosted its annual winter festival, Udbhas 2025, on 17 and 18 December. The campus came alive with energy, colour, and excitement. Students, teachers, alumni, and guests gathered to celebrate creativity, learning, and togetherness.
The event started with an inauguration by Principal Jaydeep Sarangi, who welcomed everyone and spoke about the spirit behind Udbhas. Several distinguished guests attended the programme, which included Madhuminta Manna, Smt. Bratati Bandyopadhyay, Smt. Jui Biswas, Prof. Om Prakash Mishra, Kallol Paul, Swagat Das Mohanta, and Sutapa Sanyal. Their presence added warmth and importance to the occasion.

Udbhas 2025 offered students different ways to express themselves. A quiz competition tested the knowledge in science, literature, current affairs and general awareness. The extempore competition motivated students to think fast and speak with confidence. Departments even created wall magazines filled with poems, articles and artwork. Student-led exhibitions displayed the projects and ideas, drawing curiosity and conversation from visitors.

Cultural performances became one of the most engaging parts of the carnival. Students sang, danced and performed with great enthusiasm. Both traditional and modern forms found space on the stage. Alumni and students from affiliated schools like Sahapur High and Mansur Habibullah Memorial School joined the celebrations. Their participation strengthened the feeling of community and shared learning.

Speaking about the purpose of the carnival, Amartya Saha, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, said that the event focused on experiential learning. He explained that students applied what they learned in the classroom through real activities. JMC students worked on audio-visual projects based on neo-realist Indian cinema, with a special focus on Bengal. They also documented the entire event, interacted with media professionals, and received practical exposure. He added that the newly inaugurated laboratory would help students learn media skills in a hands-on way.

The college library organised ‘Kolkata Panorama’, an exhibition of books and documents on history, art, and culture. At the same time, the Journalism and Mass Communication Lab was inaugurated, which marked an important step toward skill-based education.

Sharing his vision, Principal Jaydeep Sarangi said that Udbhas focus on innovation through education. He stressed that learning results in research, creativity, and real-world application. According to him, experiential learning is beneficial for students to understand how knowledge contributes to society.

With participation from more than 200 students, colourful decorations, and a lively atmosphere, Udbhas 2025 left a lasting impression. Students learned together, supported one another, and celebrated their talents. The carnival reminded everyone that creativity, curiosity and teamwork are as important as academic success.
