The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the deadline for NEET-UG 2026 candidates to submit bank account details for fee refunds, nearly two weeks after the medical entrance exam was scrapped amid allegations of a paper leak.
The move comes as the fallout from the cancellation of one of India’s biggest entrance examinations continues to affect lakhs of students and parents across the country. With the re-examination now scheduled for June 21, the Centre and the NTA are under pressure to restore confidence in the process after allegations of irregularities triggered protests and investigations.
In a notice shared on X on Wednesday, the NTA said candidates can now submit their bank account details till June 22 at 11:50 PM through the NEET (UG)-2026 registration portal. The earlier deadline was May 27.
The agency said more than 13 lakh candidates have already updated their details since the refund facility was activated on May 23.
“Important announcement for candidates yet to submit bank details for fee refund! The last date has been extended to 22nd June 2026 (till 11:50 PM),” the NTA said in its post.
Candidates have been asked to log in using their application credentials to access the refund link and fill in the required banking information. The NTA also said applicants may upload a cancelled cheque to avoid errors while entering account details.
What NTA said on refund details
The testing agency clarified that once candidates submit their bank information, no further changes will be allowed.
“Once the bank account details are submitted, the same shall be treated as final and no further modification shall be permitted thereafter. Candidates are required to fill in the details as specified in Annexure-I, carefully,” the notice stated.
The NEET-UG 2026 examination, conducted on May 3 across 551 cities in India and 14 international centres, saw participation from over 22 lakh aspirants.
Why NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled
The examination was cancelled on May 12 after allegations of a coordinated paper leak surfaced from multiple states, sparking nationwide outrage among students and parents. The controversy also triggered political attacks and protests, with opposition parties questioning the government over the handling of the examination process.
Several agencies, including the CBI, are now probing the alleged irregularities.
The Union Education Ministry has meanwhile directed officials to tighten security arrangements for the re-examination scheduled on June 21. Officials have also indicated that from next year onwards, NEET-UG will shift to a computer-based test format to reduce the chances of such incidents recurring.
