More than 2.29 lakh teaching aspirants will appear for the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) over the next two days under tightened security norms, with candidates barred from carrying or wearing several personal items, including belts, shoes and digital watches, inside examination halls.

The Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) has introduced a strict dress code and reinforced examination protocols to curb malpractice and ensure the smooth conduct of one of the state’s biggest teacher recruitment examinations.

TNTET 2026: Over 2.29 lakh candidates to appear

Paper I, meant for candidates seeking appointment as secondary grade teachers, will be conducted at 222 examination centres. A total of 61,386 candidates are expected to take the examination.

Paper II, for graduate teacher aspirants, will be held at 613 centres across Tamil Nadu. The examination has drawn 1,67,743 registered candidates.

TRB bans belts, shoes, digital watches and electronic devices

The Board has prohibited candidates from wearing belts, shoes, high heels and digital watches inside examination halls. Mobile phones and all electronic devices, including communication gadgets and microphones, have also been banned.

According to the TRB, the restrictions are intended to prevent unfair practices during the examination.

Candidates found carrying prohibited items or engaging in malpractice or misconduct will face immediate disqualification.

Candidates must reach centres before 9.30 am

The Teachers Recruitment Board has instructed candidates to report to their allotted examination centres between 8.30 am and 9.30 am.

No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination venue after 9.30 am under any circumstances, the Board said.

To oversee the examination process, the TRB has deployed district-level monitoring officers. Senior School Education Department officials holding the rank of Director, Joint Director and Deputy Director have been assigned to supervise examination arrangements and ensure compliance with the prescribed guidelines.

Officials have urged candidates to strictly follow all examination instructions and cooperate with authorities for the smooth conduct of the test.
