The New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) 2026 has reinforced its position as a significant international cultural event, demonstrating how the fair has evolved beyond a national showcase into a global forum for literary and intellectual exchange.
With participation from over 35 countries, the fair is increasingly being recognised as a key meeting point for publishers, authors and readers from across the world. The strong international presence reflects the fair’s expanding relevance on the global publishing calendar, as well as India’s growing engagement with cross-border cultural dialogue.
Qatar Pavilion Draws Strong Public Interest
Among the international participants, the Qatar pavilion has emerged as one of the major attractions at the fair, witnessing consistently high footfall throughout the event.
Visitors have shown keen interest in Qatar’s cultural heritage, literary traditions and contemporary publications, indicating a growing curiosity among Indian readers about the country’s intellectual and cultural landscape.

The response, organisers noted, points to a rising appetite for global narratives and lesser-explored cultural perspectives within the Indian reading public.
Promoting Cultural Exchange Through Translation
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, Director of the Library Department at the Ministry of Culture, Qatar, said the pavilion offers a comprehensive glimpse into Qatar’s cultural ecosystem.
He explained that the Ministry has showcased a wide range of publications spanning literature, history, culture and contemporary thought. To engage Indian audiences more meaningfully, several prominent Qatari works have been translated into Indian languages.
This initiative, he said, is aimed at familiarising Indian readers with Qatar’s cultural production while strengthening long-term cultural dialogue between the two countries.

Strengthening People-to-People Ties
In addition to books, the Qatar pavilion features interactive activities and discussions designed to promote dialogue and mutual understanding.
Organisers said the enthusiastic response from visitors has contributed to deepening people-to-people connections and has given fresh momentum to India–Qatar cultural relations.
The sustained engagement highlights how literary platforms can play a crucial role in fostering cross-cultural awareness beyond formal diplomatic exchanges.
Focus Country and Guest of Honour Highlight Global Standing
The fair’s international character has been further underlined by Spain’s participation as the Focus Country and Qatar’s role as the Guest of Honour at NDWBF 2026. These designations reflect the fair’s rising prominence and its ability to attract meaningful global partnerships.
Observers noted that such collaborations position the New Delhi World Book Fair as an important space for international literary cooperation and cultural diplomacy.
Showcasing India’s Soft Power
The event also underscores India’s growing soft power, with books, languages and ideas emerging as effective tools of cultural outreach.
