Know the top 5 among Civil Services 1,099 merit holders

So, the list of those who cleared the Civil Services, the country’s most prestigious examination, is out. The Union Public Service Commission released the merit list of 1,099 candidates on Wednesday. Among the successful candidates are civil servants, engineers, doctors, students, etc. The merit list has 846 men and 253 women, including 500 in the general category, 347 from the Other Backward Classes, 163 from Scheduled Castes and 89 from Scheduled Tribes. "The mark sheets will be available on the website — www.upsc.gov.in — within 15 days," the Union Public Service Commission said. Know the top five performers.

Nandini KR (Rank 1): In her fourth attempt, Indian Revenue Service officer Nandini KR of Kolar in Karnataka topped the civil services examination. She had cleared the exam in 2014 as well and was allocated IRS. Determined to become an Indian Administrative Officer, she sat for the exam again in 2016.

Anmol Sher Singh Bedi (Rank 2): This 23-year-old computer engineer from Amritsar in Punjab achieved the feat in his first attempt. Anmol’s father SS Bedi is an educationist. He wants to join the Indian Foreign Service. He had completed his computer science degree from BITS Pilani.

Gopala Krishna Ronanki (Rank 3): Son of a farmer from Parasamba village of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh, Gopala Krishna Ronanki, 30, showed grit and defied odds to stand third in the examination. Working as a primary school teacher for over a decade, he kept working hard for the civil services. He did his schooling in Telugu medium and chose Telugu literature as his optional subject in the Civils (Mains).

Saumya Pandey (Rank 4): A trained classical dancer, Saumya Pandey is a gold medallist from the prestigious Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Allahabad. The only child of Dr Sadhana Pandey, a gynecologist, and Dr Ravi Pandey, owner of a computer institute, Saumya was the CBSE district topper in Class 10. She had opted for geography as an optional subject.

Abhilash Mishra (Rank 5): Cracking the Civil Services is not new to Abhilash, who hails from Allahabad. He is already an Indian Revenue Service officer. He is a Bachelor of Technology (Btech). He sat for the exam in 2016 to better his ranking, which he has done with flying colours. Also, his wife is in the merit list at 290th rank.
