West Bengal Online Cab Operators’ Guild to discontinue services if demands not met

In further intensification of their tussle, the drivers who have been protesting in various ways, at one time switching off the air-conditioning in the vehicle or by shortening the time of service, have now finally decided to surrender their vehicles to the aggregators if their demands are not fulfilled within 27 June, within seven days of writing their letter.

The member drivers of the West Bengal Online Cab Operators’ Guild have decided to discontinue service in case their demands are not met by 27 June.

The drivers, most of whom work with one of the two private aggregators, have written a letter to the company informing it about their decision.

The letter includes a list of the demands made by the drivers and mentions that this is the final letter from the members of the forum and in case their grievances are not redressed, they will be forced to surrender their vehicles and discontinue their services.

The Joint Forum of App Cab Operators (JFACO) and West Bengal Online Cab Operators’ Guild (OCOG), the two bodies of the online app cab drivers, have been protesting since the month of December 2018.

The drivers have for long been complaining against alleged low payments and unexplained blocking of their IDs by the aggregator. While they suspended services for a few days in December, in mid-January they had threatened to go for severe protests if the aggregators did not respond.

The dispute has worsened as the two sides could not reach any consensus despite a few rounds of talks between the representatives of the drivers and the partner companies.
