The West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC), on the basis of media reports, has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident of a women giving birth to a stillborn due to alleged negligence of Nilratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital.The Bench of the commission comprising Justice (Retd) Asok Kumar Ganguly and IAS (Retd) S N Roy has directed the principal secretary, state Health Department, to conduct an inquiry into the incident by a responsible, senior doctor and submit a report with his specific comments within two weeks from the date of the communication of the order, said Mr Rabindranath Samanta, Registrar of WBHRC.Mr Bimal Chandra Ghosh, the father of the stillborn, alleged that the child died due to sheer negligence of the hospital staff. He alleged the child would have survived if the doctors and nurses had acted on time.Mrs Satabdi Ghosh, mother of the stillborn, had to walk to the labour room as there was no trolley. She fell on the ground and she gave birth to the child there.
