The city police have announced an eight-hour closure of Vidyasagar Setu this Sunday to enable repair and rehabilitation works on the bridge.
According to a notification issued by the Kolkata Police, the bridge is to remain closed to vehicular traffic between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. on 14 June. To facilitate the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners Authority, the custodian of second Hooghly Bridge, carry out the replacement of stay cables, holding down cables and bearings on the bridge.
With the closure of the bridge for eight hours this weekend, the city police have also announced traffic diversion during the period. As stated in the notification, all types of west bound vehicles, coming along AJC Bose Road from Zeeru’t Island side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Turf View via at Grade Road towards Hasting Crossing to avail St. Georges Gate Road – Strand Road – Howrah Bridge or to take right turn from Hasting Crossing for K P Road while the west bound vehicles, coming along K P Road from J and N Island side for Vidyasagar Setu, would be diverted from 11 Furlong Gate towards Hasting Crossing to avail St. Georges Gate Road – Strand Road – Howrah Bridge.
For the east bound vehicles coming along CGR Road from Kidderpore side for Vidyasagar Setu, would be diverted by the police from Hasting Crossing to take left turn to avail St. Georges Gate Road – Strand Road – Howrah Bridge.
According to the city traffic police notification, all type of vehicles of K P Road, availing Vidyasagar Setu via ramp at Y-Point near Ghora Pass, would also be diverted from Y-Point on K P Road towards 11 Furlong Gate to avail K P Road – Red Road for Howrah Bridge.
