Malda, 15 November
The University of Gour Banga (UGB) is eventually getting its permanent controller of examinations (COE). Mr Abdur Kader Safily from Kshudiram College of Jalpaiguri district has been issued the appointment letter for the post and he is expected to join within a month. Vice-Chancellor Prof Gopal Mishra said that issuance of the appointment letter as the permanent COE of the UGB was resolved in the last university council (UC) meeting in Kolkata on 27 October.
It may be mentioned that most of the several serious allegations which kept the UGB embarrassing were against the examinations department.
Since its inception in 2008, the UGB did not get a permanent COE barring few months of Mr Sudipta Mukherjee’s tenure who joined as the permanent COE.
Chinmoy Basu, Bikash Roy, Tarashankar Gupta, Samipendra Banerjee, Apurba Chakraborty, Madhab Adhikary, Rajat Kishore Dey and Sanatan Das acted as the COE at different times.
Their tenures varied from two days to one year.
However, the situation worsened during the term of present officiating Mr Sanatan Das when the varsity was pierced by one allegation after other.
The unprecedented incident of the withdrawal of results even after publication, question paper leakage on several occasions, delayed publication of result; anomalies in holding review all marked the COE
department since August 2012.
