Incessant rainfall triggered landslides at different places in the Darjeeling Hills that claimed two lives at Poobong near Darjeeling town early this morning.Sixty-year-old Kumar Lopchan and his wife 55-year-old Bal Kumari Lopchan were buried in the debris when a huge landmass fell on their house at Chitai Dhura at Poobong, around 14 km from here.

Meanwhile, with the onset of the rainy season, the Darjeeling district administration maintained that it was well prepared to tackle such natural calamities, and that they have enough stock of relief items and the equipment needed for rescue operations.

Gorkhaland Territorial Administration chairman Anit Thapa visited the spot early in the morning.The district administration also said that it will provide whatever relief is required in the incident.
