There is growing interest within the Bankura district Trinamul Congress over the message Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to deliver at a rally in Barjora on 30 December.
According to district Trinamul sources, preparations for the Chief Minister’s visit have already begun. On Monday, the Bankura district Trinamul leadership held meetings to discuss the programme.
As the year draws to a close, Trinamul Congress leaders and workers at all levels are engaged in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Against this backdrop, Trinamul chairperson Mamata Banerjee has decided to hold a major political programme towards the end of the year.
The TMC leaders in Bankura said, if all plans proceed as scheduled, the Chief Minister will address a public meeting on 30 December at the Barjora College Ground in Bankura district. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether she will hold any administrative meetings during her visit.
The Chief Minister’s message from the rally has generated keen interest within the district unit of the party. District sources said preparations are already underway, with the party aiming for a massive turnout.
The Barjora Assembly segment falls under the Bishnupur Lok Sabha constituency. In the last Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamul Congress narrowly lost this segment by around 5,000 votes, with BJP candidate Saumitra Khan emerging victorious. Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the state TMC leadership is therefore keen to further strengthen the organisation with the objective of winning all Assembly segments under this Lok Sabha constituency.
Meanwhile, 1 January, will also mark the foundation day of the Trinamul Congress. With the Assembly elections approaching, the political significance of the foundation day has increased considerably this year, according to a senior party leader. The Bankura district TMC leadership believes that the Chief Minister may use the Barjora rally to outline a clear roadmap for the political battles ahead. Bankura remains a BJP stronghold, and the TMC is keen to wrest control of the seats in the 2026 Assembly polls.
