TMC leader pledges to repair damaged road

Trinamool Congress (TMC), Kurseong sub-division chairman Pradip Pradhan visited the Karmath-Kalijhora landslide-hit area on Tuesday and took stock of the situation.

The PWD-constructed road sustained major damage, including a cave-in of some sections, due to landslides a few years back, and has not been repaired since.

Pradhan said that the local people and the representatives of the Trinamool Congress from Kalijhora and Lathpunchor area had requested him to take necessary measures for the immediate reconstruction of the road.

Pradhan stressed that the roadway is the life line for the residents of the area and more than 25 thousand people of the region are dependent on it.

“ Hence, considering the locals’ requests, I visited the area and took stock of the situation,” said Pradhan.

Pradhan alleged “Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) and GTA chief, Bimal Gurung, visited this spot during his padyatra and had assured the people of the area to reconstruct the road within a time frame of one month.

But even after around a year, the landslide-hit portion of the road is yet to be reconstructed. The entire damaged stretch of the road is yet to be repaired.”

Pradhan added “This particular landslide-hit area has now been turned into a money minting pit by some GJMM activists."

Asking if the GTA maintains that it cannot repair the road, Pradhan claimed that he would reconstruct the landslide-hit road within seven days with the help of the PWD minister and the state chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

The CM, he asserted, is committed to developing the hills.

“During the recent stir at Tindharia over the reconstruction of the NH 55, the CM sanctioned more than 70 crores for the immediate resumption of NH 55 construction,” he said.
