Newly-elected BJP Legislature Party leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and paid tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Swami Pranabananda after being chosen to lead the BJP legislature party in West Bengal.

Addressing party legislators, senior leaders and workers after his election, Adhikari thanked the people of Bengal for placing their trust in the BJP and said the mandate reflected the aspirations of people seeking political and administrative change in the state. Recalling the party’s organisational struggles in Bengal over the past several years, Adhikari remembered what he described as the sacrifices of 321 BJP workers, who had allegedly lost their lives during political movements and clashes in the state.

He said thousands of BJP supporters and workers had faced “violence, persecution and false cases” during the party’s expansion in Bengal. “The sacrifices and struggles of our workers will not go in vain. Their dreams and aspirations will now be fulfilled through good governance and development,” he said. Emphasising the BJP’s governance priorities, Adhikari asserted that the new government would focus on “more work and less words” while ensuring transparency and accountability in administration. He also stressed that women’s safety and security would remain one of the key priorities of the government.

Referring to incidents such as Sandeshkhali and the alleged irregularities linked to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the BJP leader announced that inquiry commissions would be constituted to investigate the matters. He said strict action would be initiated against those found responsible following due process of law.

Adhikari further stated that retired judges would head commissions to probe allegations of institutional corruption and administrative irregularities in different sectors. According to him, the proposed inquiries would aim to restore public confidence in governance and ensure accountability in public institutions.

Reiterating the BJP’s electoral promises, Adhikari said every assurance announced by Prime Minister Modi during the campaign would be implemented by the new government. He maintained that the Centre and the state government would work in close coordination for the development of Bengal and to fulfil the expectations of the people. “The objective before us is to rebuild West Bengal through development, employment generation and transparent governance,” Adhikari said. He also called upon party workers to strengthen the BJP organisation further and expand the party’s support base across the state. “We must win the confidence of the people through reconstruction and development and take the BJP’s support from 46 per cent to 60 per cent in the coming days,” he added.
