Over 70 self-help groups (SHG) participated in an exhibition organised under the banner of the Sawangsidha Self-Help Group, held at Maya Bhavan, Serampore.
The Serampore Municipality extended its support to the Sawangsidha Mela, which showcased a wide array of handmade products crafted by women from various self-help groups.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the chairman of Serampore Municipality, Giridhari Saha. The municipality’s NULM (National Urban Livelihoods Mission) department played a key role in supporting the event, providing a platform for women entrepreneurs to display and sell their handcrafted items.
Tania Hore, city mission manager of the NULM department, Serampore Municipality, stated that women associated with self-help groups are eligible for soft loan facilities to help launch their businesses. Most of these women are unemployed and seek to support their families through entrepreneurial ventures.
The exhibition featured a diverse range of handicrafts made from bamboo, wood, and palm leaves, alongside handloom sarees, kurtis, blouse pieces, batik bed sheets, and silk-printed garments. Also on display were costume jewellery, handmade chocolates, dal bori (pulses), assorted spices, dry fruits, palm candy, frond coconut naru, and a variety of traditional sweets.
Among those present at the event were CIC Pintu Nag, CIC Tiasa Mukherjee, Ward Councillor Shantanu Ganguly, Asim Kumar Pandit, Jayanath Jhan, and departmental in-charge Jhum Mukherjee.
