Kolkata, 8 July: The state president of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr Nirmal Majhi today said, action would be taken against Asif Khan, who slapped a doctor in a private clinic of the city last week, after viewing CCTV footages.
"People who humiliate medical fraternity will not be spared and stern action will be initiated against them, "said Dr Majhi after the Trinamul backed Progressive Doctors Association (PDA) won the elections to West Bengal Medical Council.
Mr Asif Khan who claimed himself to be a soldier of change had slapped a doctor in a private clinic last week after a brawl over the treatment of his father who was admitted there. The incident was recorded in the CCTV footages and played on the news channels to the embarrassment of ruling party.
He further said, the working of the newly elected council would be transparent and apolitical.
"The government since coming to power has improved the medical facilities in the city and especially in rural areas. The aim is to have medical college in every district of the state," said Dr Majhi visibly happy with the PDA’s victory.
Amid allegations of foul play, Dr Majhi claimed, polls were held peacefully with no reports of any wrongdoing. sns
