Pashchim Banga Divas was officially observed for the first time across the state, including North Bengal on Saturday, with programmes held in several districts across the region ranging from Cooch Behar to Malda.
Pashchim Banga Divas in Siliguri
In Siliguri, administrative officials of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation marked the occasion with cultural performances. District administrations across the region organised commemorative events in their respective areas.
The Uttar Banga chapter of Vishwa Samvad Kendra in Siliguri is scheduled to hold an evening programme featuring cultural performances and a discussion on the historical significance of observing West Bengal Day on 20 June.
Celebrations in Malda
In Malda, District Magistrate Rajanvir Singh Kapoor led the celebrations highlighting the district’s rich cultural heritage, including its folk traditions and the popular Gambhira art form. The programme started off with floral tributes to the statue of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at Head Post Office More in Malda town, followed by a cultural event.
A larger function was later organised at the Malda College Auditorium, attended by people from different walks of life, particularly school students. Government officials and North Malda MP Khagen Murmu were also present.
Officials said observances would continue throughout the day in different parts of North Bengal.
