Food minister Ashok Kirtania said ineligible “rich” ration card holders, who pay tax but draw BPL benefits, will be removed, while genuine BPL families, presently being left out, will be inducted soon.
During his first visit to East Burdwan on Friday, Kirtania inspected the Food Corporation of India warehouses at Orgram in Bhatar block. Besides, he also inspected several dealer points in Kurmun area of the district amidst heavy rains. Samples of rice meant for distribution were collected for quality testing by food and health departments.
Minister Kirtania warned of “zero tolerance” against corruption in ration distribution. He said: “The rich should give up enjoying benefits of food articles meant for the BPL at once.”
