In a recent development, Pursura MLA Biman Ghosh met railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi to press for a long-standing demand of railway connectivity to Radhanagar in Khanakul, the birthplace of Raja Rammohan Roy, along with establishment of a halt station at Jangalpara.

For decades, residents of the Arambagh sub-division have sought railway access to Radhanagar. The issue was repeatedly raised in Parliament by former Arambagh MP Aparupa Poddar, though without tangible results. The demand has gained urgency as historians, researchers, and visitors from across the country and abroad continue to flock to Radhanagar throughout the year to learn more about the great reformer.

Speaking to the Press, Mr Ghosh said: “I recently met railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi and placed the people’s long-standing demand for railway connectivity to Radhanagar in Khanakul and a halt station at Jangalpara on the Rasulpur-Jangalpara route.”

He added that the meeting with Mr Vaishnaw and minister of state for railways Ravneet Singh was “fruitful”. According to Mr Ghosh, the railway authorities confirmed that the survey for setting up the Jangalpara halt station has been completed, while the survey for railway connectivity to Radhanagar is currently in progress.
