An all-party meeting was held at the conference hall of the Asansol Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (Sadar) office ahead of the second phase of hearings under the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) process.
The meeting took place in the presence of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, (Asansol Sadar) Biswajit Bhattacharya, and representatives of Election Commission of India-recognised all political parties from the Asansol North, Asansol South, and Kulti Assembly constituencies were present.
After the meeting, Trinamul Congress representative and Asansol Municipal Corporation Member Mayor-in-Council (MMIC) Gurudas Chatterjee said that the district administration had informed them that hearings would be conducted at five locations in each Assembly constituency.
The TMC demanded that the hearings be held at least at 10 locations in each constituency. On this issue, he said that if hearings are conducted at only five places, it would become difficult for poor people living in remote areas to reach the hearing centres.
