Siliguri, 11 November
The Siliguri administration has removed the campaign-related posters plastered by some political parties for the two Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) by-elections slated on 22 November, citing that most of the posters were pasted on government properties located across the ward 11~one of the wards where the by-election is due.
“As per the instruction from the Municipal Election Commission, plastering election campaign posters violates the election code of conduct. If any political party plasters election posters on the private properties it has to show the written permission from the concerned owners to the administration.
“Despite the political parties being asked to remove the posters they had not done anything. The administration has removed some of the posters that are mostly plastered on the properties of the government today,” said the Siliguri deputy magistrate and deputy collector, Mr Hirak Roy, adding that the drive would continue in the coming days.
