Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now likely to address a public rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground on March 14, a day earlier than the previously scheduled date, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sources said on Thursday.

Senior state BJP leaders said the revised schedule has been confirmed internally within the party.

As per the tentative programme, the Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Kolkata on the night of March 13, address the rally the following day, and return to New Delhi later the same evening.

The proposed rally at the Brigade Parade Ground is expected to formally kick off the BJP’s high-intensity campaign for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.

The development comes amid indications that the Election Commission may announce the poll schedule for the state as early as next week, triggering heightened political activity across West Bengal.

Major political parties have already intensified organisational outreach and campaign preparations ahead of the elections.

The BJP leadership is hopeful that the Prime Minister’s address at the iconic Kolkata venue will energise party workers and consolidate support ahead of the crucial electoral battle.

Brigade Parade Ground has traditionally been regarded as one of West Bengal’s most politically significant venues, hosting several landmark rallies by major political parties over the decades.

Ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections, Prime Minister Modi had addressed a massive gathering at the same ground on March 7 as part of the party’s state-wide campaign.

In the run-up to the forthcoming polls, the BJP has been conducting a series of “Parivartan Yatras” across different regions of the state to build grassroots momentum.

Party sources indicated that these yatras are expected to culminate in the Brigade rally to be addressed by the Prime Minister.

Political observers are expected to closely watch the address from the Brigade stage, particularly for signals on the BJP’s electoral strategy and campaign direction in the lead-up to the Assembly elections.
