A team of anti- dacoity and robbery section of the Detective Department (DD) of the city police arrested a person from Bikaner, Rajasthan in connection with a heist to the tune of Rs 14,48,000 lakh from a businessman of Jorabagan held in 2018.
According to police, the person had been identified as Din Dayal Pandit alias Dinu Pandit originally hailed from Bikaner, Rajasthan, but used to live at Rajendranagar Colony, Hind Motor, Hooghly. The accused, said an officer of the DD, used to work as an employee of the fruit businessman Devilal Sharma at his KK Tagore Street office.
On 7 April 2018, he barged into the Sharma’s mezzanine third floor room and looted wads of cash to the tune of Rs 14,48,000 at gunpont. He also led an assault on the victim leaving him badly injured. Later, he decamped with the cash to Rajasthan.

A team of officers from the anti-dacoity and robbery section, who was entrusted with the job of cracking the case, cultivating the source information and the tower location of the accused’s mobile tarcked the accused’s whereabouts and reached out to the neighbourhood of Pandit in Rajasthan and arrested him in June this year under section 392/397 IPC, robbery and attempt to murder case 25 ( 1B) (a)/ 27 Arms Act.
He was first remanded to police custody till 13 July and later he was sent to Judicial custody till 9th of this month.
