The move to update National Register of Citizens (NRC) will pose no problem to worshippers of Goddesses Durga and Kali, Lord Shiva and Narayana, said BJP leader Rahul Sinha here today. Referring to the consensus of political parties namely the CPI-M and the Congress over NRC proposal moved by the ruling Trinamul Congress in the state Assembly, Sinha today slammed the Trinamul’s campaigns in Bengal.

The campaign led by chief minister Mamata Banerjee intends to create panic among the Muslim citizens in India, alleged Sinha, the national secretary of BJP. He said, the NRC phobia caused by the TMC is baseless because the union government has already come up with the Citizenship Amendment Act that seeks to nail down the infiltrators only. The BJP leader assured that not a single Muslim citizen of India is going to be affected by the NRC.

“Though it appears that the NRC issue has brought TMC, CPI-M and Congress under one umbrella, the actual fact is that the three outfits are going to forge an alliance in the coming Assembly election,” said Sinha, formerly the state BJP president. For TMC, CPI-M and Congress, the NRC has become a cause for concern because all these political parties used to bank on the foreigners’ or infiltrators’ vote-bank for long, he alleged, adding that the NRC drive is going to hit the political parties which are into beneficial enjoyment of infiltrators’ vote-bank.

He also clarified that the devotees of Durga, Shiva, Kali and Narayana, who have come later to India either from Pakistan or Bangladesh, will have no problem if their names get excluded from the NRC.
