Kolkata Police used 3D modelling technology for the first time in its history of detection of criminals in connection with the Netaji Nagar couple murder case. The 3D mapping system was used to take pictures of the entire house of the elderly Mukherjee couple who was found murdered inside their home on Tuesday morning.

The 3D modelling is equipped with the latest technology which can capture the picture of any place from 360 degree angle and detect the invisible fingerprints from any crime scene. Moreover, this device rotates automatically and it can take clear images even in the dark. Earlier, police had to use multiple cameras to capture images from different angles. Police have recorded a 9 minute-long video with this modelling which will help in the reconstruction of the crime scene. In the meantime, the police have interrogated about 20 to 25 people, including two promoters in connection with the gruesome murder of Dilip and Swapna Mukherjee. Although the sleuths are still in a fix over the motive of the murder, they are certain that the perpetrators were wellacquainted with the Mukherjee couple. Murlidhar Sharma, joint commissioner (crime) of police today visited the spot. “There is certainly an involvement of someone who is well-known to the victims in this case,” he said. He also did not rule out the possibility of murder for gain in the case.

The investigators today recovered gold jewellery including two finger-rings and a chain from the locker of a broken almirah which probably missed the eyes of the murderers as it hidden by a piece of cloth. Four bunches of keys have also been discovered. Earlier, the police officers recovered huge amounts of cash, certificates of fixed deposits worth Rs. 30 lakh and gold ornaments from the house. The investigators have also found out four bank accounts in the names of deceased couple.

According to police, the neighbours whose house is located just behind the Mukherjee home saw the lights on late at around 11 on Monday night when they were closing windows during the rain. The neighbours have informed the police that lights used to remain switched off in the Mukherjee’s house at that hour.

In another case of the murder of Biswas couple at a farmhouse in Narendrapur where their chopped bodies were found inside two trolley bags, preliminary investigation has suggested that there was a fight in the house before they were killed.
