The unnatural death of an MLA’s bodyguard at MLA Hostel on Kyd Street has raised questions. On Saturday morning, the body was recovered from the floor of the hostel, sparking concerns about security. The deceased person is identified as Joydeb Ghora and the police are investigating whether it was suicide or if there are other reasons behind the bodyguard’s death.

The police suspect that the death occurred by falling from the fourth floor of the hostel. The police, including officials from Lalbazar’s homicide branch, have reached the scene and initiated an inquiry. The preliminary assumption is that the death might have occurred by falling from an upper floor.

The DC (south) of Kolkata Police, Priyabrata Ray, stated that a thorough investigation is underway, and they will confirm the cause of death after receiving the forensic report. The incident has raised questions about security in the MLA Hostel, where stringent security measures are usually in place. The police are compiling a list of individuals, who were present in the hostel from Friday night to Saturday morning and will interview them separately. Additionally, they are in contact with the deceased’s family to gather information about his mental state.

The police are striving to determine the circumstances leading to Joydeb Ghora’s fall and death. Ghora was the bodyguard of Bandwan MLA Rajib Lochan Saren. The MLA Hostel had witnessed a murder in 1994 when Forward Bloc’s former MLA Ramzan Ali was killed. The incident had stirred political controversies around that time. In 2020, unnatural death of a former BJP Hemtabad MLA Debendra Nath Roy had also taken place
