Commuters can look forward to smoother journeys in the city’s existing Metro network. The Kolkata Metro Railway completed the ElectronicInterlocking work at Dum Dum panel this morning. This work involved modification of the existing Electrical Interlocking System to an Electronic Interlocking (EI) System at Dum Dum Panel which is linked to all the routes, points, signals and track sections to the car shed and next stations.

The Electronic Interlocking work started last night after the service hours and was completed successfully this morning before services started, and was done without hampering commercial services on the Blue Line.

The modification done through non-interlocking, according to the city metro office, will greatly improve the operational flexibility of movement of rakes to and from Dum Dum and thereby increase performance parameters of train running of Metro Railway.

After the commissioning of this Electronic Interlocking, Metro Railway will be able to provide improved passenger services. Apart from this, incidents of failure of points and signals are to get significantly reduced with the help of this computer controlled system. It will also enhance the efficiency of the Panel Operators. The work, as informed by the city metro office, was completed under the supervision of deputy chief Signal and Telecom Engineer, Jyotirmoy Ray and will enhance safety and increase operational flexibility
