Mocking Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for seeking an appointment to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national Capital, BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha said that it is classic example of opportunistic politics and a desperate attempt to save herself from the clutches of CBI. Chief minister Banerjee is likely to meet Prime Minister Modi in the national capital on Wednesday, state secretariat sources confirmed on Monday. Mamata Banerjee will be leaving for New Delhi on Tuesday, the sources said.

The two leaders are likely to hold discussions on administrative issues of Bengal at the meeting, he added. The appointment for the meeting was sought by the chief minister’s office last week. Sinha today said the reason behind the chief minister’s sudden visit was an open secret and it alsoexposed her nature of an opportunistic politician, who can go to any extent to get her purpose served and forget it once the job is done.

“We all know the kind of language Mamata Banerjee had used against Prime Minister Modi during Lok Sabha elections and afterwards. She never had any regard for the federal structure and had even said she did not feel the need to respect Modiji as Prime Minister,” Sinha said. The CPI(M) and the Congress leadership said the proposed meeting between Modi and Banerjee is a part of “political match fixing” that the TMC and BJP are indulging in Bengal. CPI-M politburo member Muhammad Salim said that the chief minister had always maintained a double standard and contradicted herself.

“In previous instances we have seen how before leaving Delhi, she talked on an issue but later managed the situation in Delhi and changed tune after meeting the Prime Minister. During her tenure as railway minister, Miss Banerjee said she was going to speak to then Prime Minster Manmohan Singh regarding CRPF security matter in Maoist areas but she went Delhi to sign a contract with a US-based company for railways,” he said. The former CPI-M MP said that the real reason Miss Banerjee was going to New Delhi was for an another bargain.

“We will see that once she returns after meeting the Prime Minister, she will lower her voice on the NRC issue as she will get a deal regarding CBI investigation on IPS Rajeev Kumar,” Salim alleged. Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra said that his party had been saying for a long time that TMC and BJP are playing out a fixed match in the state. “Mamata Banerjee is going to meet the Prime Minister to ensure that the CBI goes slow in the chit fund scam investigation,” he said.

According to another senior BJP leader, who did not wish to be named, Banerjee is going to New Delhi to save herself and her party leaders from the clutches of the CBI, which is investigating the multi-crore chit fund scam in Bengal. “It is quite obvious that she is going to New Delhi to make an unofficial appeal to ensure that she and her TMC party leaders are not touched by the CBI. But it will not work. Our party high command will never compromise on the issue of fighting corruption. All those who have looted public money, will have to go behind bars,” he said.
