Former transport minister Madan Mitra fell ill on Sunday morning following breathing trouble. He was reportedly taken ill in the hotel where he was putting up after his release from prison on Saturday. One of his doctors said Mitra complained of breathing trouble to hotel authorities, who rushed to his room and immediately called up doctors. He has been given oxygen support several times.

Later doctors examined him and advised him to take rest. Doctors said that Mitra&’s condition is stable now, though he requires complete rest.

Meanwhile, power minister Sovandeb Chattopadhya on Sunday welcomed Mitra&’s release on bail. “Madan is like my younger brother. He is our neighbour and I feel my neighbourhood brother was released on bail… I feel very happy after his release from jail,” Chattopadhya said.

Earlier secretary general of the Trinamool Congress and state education minister Partha Chatterjee welcomed the court&’s decision to release Mitra on bail and criticised his “unnecessarily long stay in jail”.

Trinamool leader Madan Mitra was released from prison on Saturday after being incarcerated for over 21 months in connection with the Saradha scam.  Mitra was taken to a hotel within Bhowanipore police station limits as per the condition set by the court for granting him bail. His own residence is within Kalighat police station limits.

Earlier he had said that he wanted to take rest now, but would follow chief minister Mamata Banerjee&’s instructions. “I am tired and want to take rest now. I want to spend time with my family, my wife, my sons and my grandson. For two years I have not seen (Durga) Ma. This year I will enjoy Durga Puja with my family,” he had said after his release from Alipore Central Jail on Saturday.

Mitra, who was arrested on 12 December, 2014, also claimed that he had done nothing wrong.
