The West Bengal Police has issued a look-out notice against Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s executive assistant Sumit Roy, who is currently absconding and is wanted in connection with an FIR registered at Salboni Police Station in Paschim Medinipur.
Roy is an accused in an alleged land grabbing case in which former TMC MLA from Medinipur Sujoy Hazra was also reportedly involved. The notice has been issued by the Shalboni Police Station on Tuesday, IANS reported.
Roy had earlier approached the Calcutta High Court seeking interim bail on Monday just hours after a local court in the Paschim Medinipur district issued an arrest warrant against him following an appeal by the Paschim Medinipur District Police. The case is expected to be heard this week.
Pre-dawn search at Abhishek residence
Earlier in a dramatic pre-dawn operation, a joint team of the Salboni Police Station, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and Kolkata Police personnel carried out a raid at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence at Kalighat in search of Roy, whose last known location was traced down to the Trinamool Congress No. 2’s place.
According to state police sources, when the Salboni police team proceeded to track down Roy, his mobile tower location showed it at Banerjee’s residence till around 2.30 am. This was just around 30 minutes before police personnel reached Kalighat.
Reports indicate that police personnel were denied entry into Banerjee’s residence and they had to break the lock at the entrance gate with the help of State Disaster Management personnel. Following this, police conducted a three-hour-long raid inside the premises.
