The bodies of two women — sister-in-law and niece of Trinamool Congress (TMC) minister Moloy Ghatak — were recovered from a house in Asansol in a semi-decomposed condition on Monday, the West Bengal Police said.

According to the police, they went to the house in Hindustan Park area on Monday upon receiving information that foul smell was emanating from there, and recovered the bodies of Jayashri Ghatak, 61, and Nilam Ghatak, 38.

The police said reports of post-mortem examination of the bodies were awaited.

“As per initial investigation, there was no indication of foul play,” IANS quoted an officer as saying.

The two women were the wife and the daughter of Moloy Ghatak’s brother Ashim Ghatak, who died by drowning a few years ago.

Asked if the minister had lodged any complaint, the police officer said: “They were relatives of the Minister, so members from his family were present during the police procedure.”

Moloy Ghatak is the Labour, ESI and Judicial & Law Minister in the West Bengal government headed by Mamata Banerjee.
