Siliguri, 6 November
The ruling Trinamul Congress has received a shot in its arms ahead of the Lok Sabha election, as an influential ABAVP John Barla faction leader, having much clout among the tea workers in the Dooars, Mr Sukra Munda joined it at Malbazar last evening. Bolstered by the development that is likely to dent into the strongholds of the Opposition parties in the plantation-dotted region, the ruling party has decided to form its new trade union involving the tea workers in north Bengal. “We hope more such leaders from the plantations would follow suit,” said Jalpaiguri district Trinamul Congress president, Mr Chandan Bhowmik.
Another important trade union leader and the Darjeeling district Trinamul Congress working president, Mr Alok Chakraborty said that they would bring two trade unions affiliated to my party under a single umbrella following the instruction from the
party chief, Miss Mamata Banerjee.”
“We would stage a convention at Baghajatin Park in Siliguri on 12 December  in course of which two of our trade unions ~ Terai-Dooars Tea Plantation Workers’ Union, which was formed after I joined Trinamul Congress and Trinamul Tea Plantation Workers’ Union led by Joachim Buxla ~ would be unified,” he said.
