“She was in tears today. She was telling me that she could have got at least 90 per cent if her fingers had not got burnt,” said Yash Gupta, elder brother of Aditi who went to Digambar Jain Balika Vidyalaya to collect the marksheet on his sister’s behalf.
“I was not in house then. It was 28 February. Our mother was in the kitchen. After she lit the stove, it accidentally caught fire and the flames engulfed my mother. In an attempt to save her my father too caught fire. Aditi was studying upstairs. She saw them burning in front of her. When I came back it was all over. Both were admitted to the hospital,” said Yash. The father of this small family of Burrabazar died the next day and the mother succumbed to her injuries on 3 March. And the examination started on 13 March.
“I don’t know how she could manage. I did not appear in my examination which was in the month of May. The feeling of losing both parents in such an accident is undefinable. She used to study throughout the nights,” added the brother as the brave girl has moved to her grandparents’ place in north India.
