An FIR has been lodged against TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee at the Diamond Harbour police station, which comes under his parliamentary constituency. This comes after BJP leader Abhijit Das, also known as Bobby, filed a complaint, which also names six other individuals.

The complaint was filed in connection with the alleged attack on the BJP leader in 2018, while Abhishek Banerjee has been named in the FIR.

On Wednesdasy, the complainant claimed that no action was taken even after informing the police during the time of Mamata Banerjee-led TNC government in the state.

Abhijit Das has now approached the police to seek a re-investigation into the matter, effectively bringing an attack that occurred eight years ago back into the spotlight.

On Tuesday, he visited the Diamond Harbour police station to submit a formal request for a fresh investigation. The allegations are directed squarely at the Diamond Harbour MP.

Abhijit Das has claimed that a brutal attack was carried out against him on December 21, 2018, in the Kopat Hat area of Diamond Harbour. At that time, he had publicly questioned Abhishek Banerjee’s educational qualifications and degrees. He alleged that the attack was an act of political vendetta stemming from those comments.

He further alleges that, beyond physical assault, there was an attempt to silence him politically. Following the incident, the police allegedly refused to accept his complaint, while senior police officials paid no heed to his grievances.

Meanwhile, another FIR had previously been filed against the TMC leader at the Baguiati police station in North 24 Parganas, accusing him of making provocative remarks regarding post-poll violence and the vote-counting process during the Assembly elections.
