The Election commission of India on Tuesday would be meeting with the District Election Officers (DEOs) in connection with the proposal of setting up polling booths at high rises.
The meeting is a follow up after the poll panel had asked the DEOs to conduct a fresh survey on the possibility of setting up polling booths at high rises and multi-story buildings in the state and file a report by 31 December. A previous order on a similar survey allegedly did not lead to encouraging results.
A source at the CEO office claimed on Tuesday that the a meeting to be headed by the Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, who would arrive in the city tomorrow and likely deliberate with the DEOs of Kolkata North and South, South and North 24-Parganas on the possibility of setting up of booths at high rises.
The stand of the ruling Trinamul Congress in this case was earlier made clear by the party chairperson Mamata Banerjee, expressing reservation on setting up of booths at high rises.
