Yet another voter has been wrongly listed as ‘dead’ in the draft electoral roll released today, after she visited her Booth Level office to check her status.

Yesterday, a voter named Purna Saha, also marked as ‘dead’ in the draft roll, walked into Kalna Municipality and demanded that the civic body issue his death certificate immediately. He is a resident of Ward 12 under Kalna Municipality in East Burdwan.

Forty-eight-year-old Maya Dalui, who works as a domestic help, is a resident of Punjabi Para in Burdwan town. For years, she has been a registered voter at Booth No. 48 under the Bardhaman (Dakshin) Assembly Constituency. However, the draft rolls published a couple of days ago have left her heartbroken, as her name has been struck off the list, declaring her a ‘dead’ voter.

She visited the office of her Booth Level Officer, Devanand Chowrashia, this afternoon and pleaded: “I am still alive, could you please ensure my name is restored to the list?” Chowrashia responded: “It seems to be a technical error, and I have reported the matter to my supervising officer for rectification.”

At Maheshdanga camp in Memari, the draft roll listed a man named Pradip Biswas as the son of elderly voter Lalmoti Biswas. Lalmoti protested: “I have three sons, all of whom are valid voters at Booth No. 189 here. But the roll has suddenly introduced Pradip as my fourth son. Where has this new son of mine been arranged from by the Commission?”

The family clarified that Lalmoti’s husband, Promatha Biswas, passed away 17 years ago.
