A district-level review meeting on drinking water supply was held under the chairmanship of Hooghly District Magistrate Khurshid Ali Qadri. ADM zilla parishad Anuj Pratap Singh was also present.
Special emphasis was placed on the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, under which the district has provided more than 6.5 lakh household tap connections to rural families. The meeting revealed that several new schemes under the mission have been fully commissioned, while others have been partially commissioned, benefiting over 2.37 lakh rural households.
It was further reported that a surface water-based mega project is underway to serve arsenic-affected areas in Balagarh and Pandua blocks, aiming to benefit 1.5 lakh families.
However, progress has slowed due to a paucity of central funds. The public health engineering department has been asked to prioritise coverage of schools, ICDS centres and healthcare facilities with the resources available.
