Dhanbad Police have unearthed a fake job racket of West Bengal Police recruitment exam and arrested 17 persons and seized several documents and cell phones from a local lodge on Sunday afternoon.
Dhanbad City Superintendent of Police Ritwik Srivastava told the Media persons today that the West Bengal Police have also been contacted and they will visit and interrogate all the arrested persons. All aspects are being investigated to find out who is involved in this racket and how long this gang has been operating, he added.
The Dhanbad City police seized the admit cards of about 272 candidates, 67 mobile phones and some registers. During interrogation, it was revealed that a contract of Rs 2-5 lakh was made per candidate. A team of the state police has reached Dhanbad to investigate whether the West Bengal Police constable exam was fake or whether the exam was conducted with real question papers.
The West Bengal police recruitment exam was conducted in the state on Sunday. The arrested persons have been forwarded to Dhanbad Court today and will be taken on remand. Dhanbad Police said that the accused were trying to cheat in the exam by arranging question papers and answer sheets in Jharkhand.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a lodge in Jharia, Jharkhand. A large number of admit cards, question-answer notes, registers, mobile phones, smart watches, various education certificates, identity cards, bank documents and other documents were recovered.
Dhanbad City police said that the members of the racket brought candidates from different districts of West Bengal and kept them in the hotel. Several candidates from Nadia, Birbhum, Ranaghat, Chakdah, and Hanskhali areas were taken and kept in the lodge. It is also alleged that their answer sheets were prepared before the examination.
A total of 17 people have been arrested in this operation. Of the arrested, 16 are residents of West Bengal, one is from Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. After checking the lodge register, the police came to know that more than 100 candidates were registered in that lodge.
The examinees were gathered in one place and their admit cards and mobile phones were taken away beforehand.
