To avoid confusion regarding whether the dengue patients admitted in hospitals and nursing homes of Kolkata are residents of wards that fall under Kolkata Municipal Corporation, the civic body will issue a notification to several private health and treatment centres asking them to seek details of the ward numbers and municipalities in which the dengue-affected patients reside.
The civic body has taken this step after several reports surfaced to the effect that the number of dengue patients in Kolkata has increased and 22 patients have been detected with dengue despite the municipalities’ attempt to combat the disease by creating awareness among the people.
Atin Ghosh, member, Mayor-in-Council said, “Those patients who are at present suffering from dengue are not residents of the 144 wards under KMC. But confusion arises when in the details of the patients’ residential address it is not mentioned under which municipality or corporation his or her locality falls.”
He further added, “To avoid this confusion, we have asked the authorities of the nursing homes to keep a list of the ward numbers and municipalities or corporations from where these dengue affected patients arrive in the city.”
He further mentioned, “We have carried out several awareness campaign within the city and have been successful in combating the spread of the disease.”
