DUBRAJPUR, 15 JUNE: A CPI-M activist was shot dead allegedly by Trinamul Congress workers in an attack at Mete village of Loba gram panchayat over withdrawal of nomination papers for the panchayat polls this evening. CPI-M sources claimed one party worker has been abducted and a candidate was injured in the attack.
Three CPI-M workers had filed nominations papers for the panchayat polls from Mete village ~ Monai Das for Dubrajpur panchayat samiti, and Iswar Das and Pradip Bagdi for the Loba gram panchayat. According to local residents, they had previously been threatened with dire consequences if they did not withdraw their nominations. Today was the last day for nomination  withdrawal.
“This morning, the Trinamul workers threatened to abduct the candidates. They attacked the village at around 9 a.m. but were repulsed. At about 3 p.m. nearly 150 Trinamul-backed goons armed with firearms and bombs raided the village again. They claimed that Bhaskar Majumder (48), a party supporter, has given shelter to the panchayat poll candidates and shot him dead at point blank range,” said Mr. Baloram Ghosh, CPI-M zonal secretary, Dubrajpur.
The CPI-M also alleged that Iswar Das was injured when a bomb was hurled by the attackers, while Uttam Bagdi has been abducted. Three workers have been admitted to the local health centre. The Trinamul Congress, however, blamed the CPI-M for the casualty. “In Loba gram panchayat, the CPI-M had been creating chaos ahead of the upcoming election. Today also they attacked our party workers. An innocent villager was killed in firing by the CPI-M goons,” said Mr Moloy Mukherjee, district general secretary of the Trinamul Congress. CPI-M leaders said they will lodge a complaint with the Dubrajpur Police station over the incident.
Meawhile, two Congress candidates were allegedly beaten up by Trinamul Congress activists today at the Bapuji gram panchayat area, Kakdwip. Aditya Kotal and Tushar Maity, had filed their nominations as Kotal for panchayat samity-12 seat and Maity for Chandipur gram sabha. They have lodged complaints with Kakdwip police, alleging 13 TMC activists, led by Jahar Halder beat them up and later threatened them with dire consequences. TMC leaders, however, have refuted the allegations.

Hooghly CPM leader attacked 
TARKESWAR (Hooghly), 15 JUNE: A CPI-M leader&’s home was attacked in a bid to force to withdraw the nomination of his party candidate at Mohan Bati village in Keshabchalk gram panchayat, Tarkeswar. On Friday night a gang of Trinamul-backed goons allegedly attacked the residence of Mr Snehasis Roy, a member of the CPI-M district secretary committee. Mr Roy said the Trinamul-backed goons tried to break open the iron grilled gates of his home. They also threatened him with dire consequences if he did not withdraw the nomination of his party candidate. The goons, however, left when locals, on hearing the commotion, rushed to Mr Roy’s residence. The TMC district president, Mr Tapan Das Gupta, said the Trinamul is not involved in this incident. sns
